IELTS Writing Task 2

One of the consequences of improved medical care is that people are living longer and life expectancy is increasing.

Do you think the advantages of this development outweigh the disadvantages?

One of the results of the improvements in medical technologies is the increase in people'slength of life as well as the hope for reaching an old age. There are both benefits and drawbacks in these developments.

There are lots of advantages resulted from the advances in medical care. People are easily cured for not too serious illnesses that once were counted as fatal. For instance, a cold could simply kill people in 18th century; however, people's serious health problems such as cancer and hypertension are easily treated these days. In addition, there is a possibility of diagnosing genetic disorders before the child is born and curing is impossible. In consequence, lots of syndromes can be avoided this way which will lead to a healthier young generation. Moreover, expecting more years of age can have positive outcomes in people's lives. People will plan for their future life and will stay motivated in their job.

On the other hand, there are some problems caused by progressed medical care. Firstly, some sick people whose illnesses are not treatable using the available information should be kept alive until further achievements in medical care. This may lead to an immeasurable pain for the patient. Secondly, due to the rise in life expectancy levels, there will be more aged people in a society that means more budget should be allocated to their future health care and welfare.

In conclusion, there are both positive and negative consequences for the advances in health treatments. Personally, I believe there are more advantages to this issue than disadvantages.
