IELTS Writing Task 2

I came across a topic today in a book and so I decided to try write an essay. The topic is:

The media pay too much attention to the lives and relationships of celebrities such as actors, singers and footballers. They should spend more time reporting the lives of ordinary people instead.

So here is my essay:

These days, it is commonly seen that many of news reports write excessively about the private lives of celebrities. However, I oppose to this idea and believe that the media should spend more coverage on the lives of ordinary individuals.

Firstly, it is an undeniable fact that most news sites are concerned about either their circulations, or the number of readers. As a result, they have a tendency to write more about the topic that caters our curiosity: the celebrities. Many of the readers, especially the youths, show an interest for the more ordinary aspects of those famous people. Having realised this preference, the media lure the audience coming to their sites by writing lists of articles relevant to the celebrities. Of course, more shocking the news, the more readers they can capture. In the end, no one benefits more than the media themselves.

Secondly, news media should write more about the stories of ordinary lives, because the potential is almost limitless. Even though the articles of these kinds appear not as glamorous as those about celebrities, they can be truly inspring. Even a little but heart-warming action can brighten up a community, especially when we are constantly bombarded with bad news on most media platforms. Many people doing good deeds do not deserve enough, while those kind-hearted are the true heroes that should be praised.

In conclusion, excessive news reports about celebrities should be converted into more stories about usual lives. A balance between the news should benefit both the media and the readers.
