Many museums and historical sites are mainly visited by tourists but not local people. Why is this the case and what can be done to attract more local people to visit these places?

Museums and historical sites are places that attract many tourists. However, it is shown that local people barely visit these sites. Some explanations will be put forward before solutions can be drawn to tackle this problem.

To begin with, there are several reasons why museums and historical sites are not appealing to native people. First, most people find it boring when visiting these places. For example, artworks at museum, especially an abstract one, might not be everyone's cup of tea, so people do not want to waste time on them. Moreover, many museums and historical sites charge quite high entry fee. People who have been to local museums or heritage sites at least one time, they would rather explore new cultures and customs at other places than pay money for visiting these sites again. The fee also prevents low-income people from going to museums and historical sites.

Effective measures can be prompted to attract local residents to these locations. Schools play an important role in encouraging students come to museums and historical sites more often. For instance, adding more lessons about local history and organising education tour so that they can gain interest and respect for such places. Additionally, governments should spend money on advertising and renovating those sites. Celebrating festivals or special occasions in museums and historical sites is an effective way to draw people's attention to these places. In my hometown, the government rebuilt the museum and organise a series of activities for the Lunar New Year festival and this attract a lot of residents to come to enjoy their holidays.

To conclude, there are two main reasons why individuals do not visit their local museums and historical sites. To better this, solutions should be produced early to solve this problem.
