Ielts writing task 2

Some experts believe that it is better for children to begin learning a foreign language at primary school rather than secondary school. Do advantages outweigh disadvantages?

Nowadays, a second language has become a requisite in our mordern life. Moreover, it is believed that children should learn a foreign language at primary school instead of secondary school. This belief offers both advantages and disadvantages, however, with drawbacks less significant.

There are numerous advantages that can be raised, but the most influential remain two. Firstly, as they grasp another language, children boost their own cognitive development. One study found that should children start to learn a second language when they are from 3 to 6 years old, their QI level will increase faster. This growth subsequently enables children to perform well not just in language but also in math. Secondly, children comprehend language more quickly. It is a common knowledge that children subconciously learn language, making the progress easier and faster comparing with adult. In fact, 3-year-old children already know how to talk while it might takes more time for the grown-up to be fluent in a new language.

On the other hand, this practice still has some drawbacks, one of them seems more detrimental. That is to cause the imbalance of children’s growth. As spending time on learning, chidren spend less on other vital activities such as playing. In fact, playing is a process children perceive the world and strengthen their muscle. Without it, children can be underdeveloped, possibly physical degeneracy in older ages. However, this drawback are advoidable, with sensible adjustment from the parents.

In conclusion, many benefits can be reaped from this practice, while there are some preventable disadvantages, needing to be regulated.
