More and more families have computers in their homes. What advantages and disadvantages do home computers have for children ? Should parents restrict the amount of time their children spend using the computer ?

Information technology plays an important role in everyone's lives, so the computer has become an essential part of many families. However, it also has certain drawbacks, especially for children. This essay will discuss its positive and negative impacts on us.

To begin with, the benefits of using a computer are widely admitted. Firstly, computer is a useful tool for school work. It provides children with a variety of methods for acquiring knowledge effectively. Also, computer brings to learners is easy access to vast amounts resources. Google is a prime example, because it allows people to easily search for whatever they want quickly and accurately. Secondly, computers keep children entertained in a educational way. Children are very hyperactive, curious, like to observe everything around.Therefore, the lively sounds, the fun images in the web page will appeal to them. For example, young kids can learn to count, alphabet or objects around by funny cartoon images on the computer screen in order to stimulate creativity, memory training, and observation skills.

However, spending more time on computer at home, children are likely to be addicted and have eyesight problems. For example, a child loves games on the computer rather than the outdoor activities. This makes children lose their interest in studying as well as communicating with their peers. Moreover, the large size of the internet is very difficult to control and regulate. Therefore, students may access to unsuitable websites and viruses.

In conclusion, although computers are helpful to study, the adverse effects they bring weigh more. The ideal solution for this is the parents should supervise the computer usage time of children and restrict few sites on the internet to make use of technology in an efficiently way.
