Some people think that it is good for a country’s culture to impart foreign movies and TV programs. Others think that it is better to produce these locally. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

It is true that movies and TV programs are means of conveying cultural information. While it can be argued that it is important to produce local movies and TV programs, I believe that foreign ones are also necessary to people.

On the one hand, there are those who claim that domestic movies and TV programs should be produced for cultural preservation. Constantly boosting local programs helps the public have access to traditional customs. For instance, S-Vietnam a Vietnamese short documentary film broadcast every day about domestic attractions. Each episode, two young people explore well-known and remote corners of the country and introduce conventional handicraft villages, their local cuisine and other traditional values. Thus, we understand our cultural diversity that needs preserving and passing on to younger generations. Without such beneficial programs, cultural specificity would be faded away, and in the period of international integration, we would not feel a sense of national identity.

On the other hand, I side with those who assert that foreign TV programs and movies should be prevalent in countries. Take “How I met your mother” for example. A famous American sitcom revolves the daily life of main character – Ted Mosby who recounts to his children how he met his wife through interesting stories with his peers. As watching this film, we understand the way American people spend their time on social life and celebrate important events such as Christmas and New Year’s Eve. This shows us the differences between Eastern and Western lifestyle and other occasions that we have not known before. Therefore, we relatively comprehensive what is going on outside country and embrace new cultures, customs and thinking in order to assimilate into the global community.

In conclusion, although it is true that domestic movies and TV programs helps people understand cultural values, I firmly believe that it is advantageous to import foreign movies and TV programs in contemporary society.
