In spite of the advances made in agriculture, many people around the world the world still go hungry.

Why is this the case?

What can be done about this problem?

My answer:

With supports of technological progress today, the farming sector has been developing strongly. However, food shortages have remained a major concern in the world. Although there are various reasons for this problem, societies can take steps to mitigate it.

One of the most popular causes these days leads to lacking food is political instabilities in some countries. For example, in the case of Venezuela in recent years, essential goods like meat, vegetables become scarce as well as prices for them increase sharply due to the high inflation rate. Some Venezuelans had to find food from wastebaskets or they even fight each other to gain rest of packs of meat on the shelves at supermarkets. Another reason is that natural disasters such as hurricanes, droughts, flooding have destroyed crops result in shortages of food supplies. Furthermore, some countries only focus on industrialization and ignore protecting environment. As a result of this fact, some lands are polluted seriously and unable to cultivate.

However, there are several actions that governments could take to solve the problem. Firstly, governments should be transparent in budget expenditures to minimize the corruption rate which is likely to be instability. Secondly, it is difficult to prevent natural disasters, however, investing in afforestation and encouraging citizens to protect natural ecosystem also reduce partly the damage of disasters. Finally, it is necessary to forbid the establishment of industrial zones in some areas where has high potential to develop agriculture.

In conclusion, there are still several reasons that many countries in the world have to cope with food security issue. However, various measures can be taken to tackle the problem.
