Some people say History is one of the most important school subjects. Other people think that, in today's world, subjects like Science and Technology are more important than History.
Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.
My answer:
Some critics say that Science and Technology subjects are playing a more significant role than art ones like History in the globalization era. While there are practical benefits for learning Science subjects today, I believe that History should be retained as the main subject in most schools.
On the one hand, there are some arguments in favor of the view that the importance of engineering subjects are more than social ones such as History. The main reason is that modern technology is constantly growing and leads to the increase in human resource needs in most societies. Recognizing this trend, most parents orientate their children to focus on studying science subjects much more time than social ones. In fact, most secondary and high school curriculums in Vietnam always spend more time to teach science subjects rather than History. Furthermore, inappropriate teaching-history methods which force students to memorize too much instead of only reading books lead to boring and fear feelings about History.
On the other hand, I support the view that History should be considered as a major subject because it is the key factor in promoting patriotism and nationalism in every country's citizen. In addition, the history of a country is an important part of diplomatic activities as well as attracting tourism of a nation. In my opinion, leaders of most schools should reform teaching-history methods to make students feel more interested in this subject. For example, most schools could make opportunities for students to visit historical sites as well as encourage them to read more books.
In conclusion, I agree with some advantages which Science and Technology subjects bring. However, it is a big mistake to ignore the importance of History subject while overestimating Science and Technology ones.
