Living in a country where you have to speak a foreign language can cause serious social problems, as well as practical problems.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
My answer:
It is true that there is not only the diversity of culture but more than two thousand different languages are spoken worldwide. Some people argue that they are likely to face severe problems including social and real ones when they can not speak the mother tongue in a foreign country. While I agree with this view, I believe that the modern world has been making opportunities to overcome these problems.
The difference in language would lead to various consequences if someone wanted to live in another country. Firstly, although international students must be proficient in a foreign language in other to be allowed to study at the foreign university, they are still likely to attempt too much more than local students to understand whole lessons. Secondly, working for a multinational corporation forced labors to have to communicate through language regulated by this company. That might result in misunderstandings in work processes. Thus, fired risks can be very high, if workers do something wrong because of their limited language. Finally, it is likely to become conflicts in daily communications with native speakers because in some cases, they use slang or idioms that foreigners can not understand or even misunderstand.
However, the flat world today has brought many chances to reduce the difference in language. Some giant technological corporations such as Google have created useful tools to solve these problems like Google Translate. Even if Google Translate can not help you understand exactly the meaning of the particular word or idiom, you can only search for them. In addition, most people all over the world use the Internet every day, so it is easy to learn more about cultural countries before arriving there because between language and culture has a strong bond. Furthermore, if foreigners live long enough in another country, acquisition for the fulfillment of the culture and language is absolutely possible.
In conclusion, people living in the overseas have to cope with problems associated with the difference in language. However, with the development of society, I believe that they can solve these obstacles easily.
