Some people think that human history has been a journey from ignorance to knowledge. Others argue that this underestimates the achievements of ancient cultures, and overvalues our achievements. Discuss both these views and give your own opinion.

It is evident that humankind has been progressing since the dawn of creation, leading to many advanced civilizations. Although some believe human knowledge in any historical period should be greatly valued, our recent advancements, in my perspective, still bring more positive changes overall.

There are certain reasons to believe lessons from the past are highly necessary. First, they create the backbone for future advancements, which enhances human understanding of the world. In fact, the techniques and experiences accumulated during ancient times were passed on many generations, paving the way for many modern inventions and discoveries. In addition, various mysteries dated back to the prehistoric period have not been solved, even with recent technological achievements. Therefore, ancient cultures should deserve more respect, which motivates modern citizens to figure out hidden meanings behind them.

Nevertheless, human advancements nowadays could contribute to broad-based benefits for the society. First, as medical breakthroughs come into play, millions of lives would likely be saved. For instance, plenty of diseases that were once considered incurable can now be treated, thus greatly improving public health. Besides, thanks to the advances in computer science field, individuals are empowered to connect with one another, which effectively facilitates the flows of information. As a result, residents could gather insights from many parts of the world, thereby changing the world for the better.

In conclusion, while ancient cultures are beneficial in certain cases, modern achievements are the ones that allow us to become more knowledgeable. Therefore, individuals should strive to reduce their ignorance to lead a mindful and fulfilling life.
