Some people think that museums should be enjoyable places to entertain people, while others believe that the purpose of museums is to educate.
Discuss both views and give you own opinion.

It is clear that the debate on the role and function of museums has never been completely settled. Although some believe that educational museums should be prevalent, entertaining museums are gaining public attention recently.

There have been many good reasons for museums to focus on educational value. First, youngsters can gain a better understanding of the history by observing a myriad of historical artifacts and paintings. This means that younger generations will get an appreciation for the sacrifices of the past, thereby creating a better future. In addition, older visitors can greatly benefit from those museums, as they look for sentiments that cannot be found in the modern society. For example, war relics exhibited in the museums enable those senior citizens to relive the old glory days, which helps them to bring back good memories.

However, there are certain compelling reasons why the main role of museums is to entertain. First, by offering amusing exhibitions, museums can greatly motivate tourists to visit them. For example, a collection of interesting objects, such as ancient artifacts, will keep those visitors highly engaged, which encourages them to come back. In addition, in order for museums to increase their revenues, promoting charming exhibits should be imperative. In fact, since most visitors are coming to museums for entertaining purposes, offering educational contents would render them susceptible to boredom, as those contents are not closely related to their daily lives, which inevitably leads to the drop in visitor numbers.

In conclusion, although educational museums can offer some advantages, entertaining museums seem to be a better option. However, a good museum should take steps to offer enjoyable and environmental experience, so that people can have fun and learn something new at the same time.
