Some people think painting and drawing are as important as other subjects, they should be compulsory in the high school education. To what extend do you agree or disagree?

Some people consider that art subject should be included in tertiary education’s program. Although adopting this policy can bring some advantages, I completely disagree with this view.

As mentioned above, there is a major advantage of studying art at high school. Students who are good at or passionate about drawing and painting can seize more chance to improve their academic records. As a result, they are more likely to be eligible to study in an art college.

On the other hand, that advantage is eclipsed by some potential problems that can occur if art subject is compulsory in high school curriculum. First, students will spend less time learning important subjects such as math, which is definitely tested in the university entrance examination. Consequently, pupils have to study more intensively and easily become stressed. In addition, art is the less practical subject due to the fact that it can not be applied to solve some problems we face daily. For instance, fixing a machine involves in physics, or writing an essay is related to literature. Furthermore, there are a number of art classes where everyone is welcome to apply, while science extra classes are could hardly found. Therefore, art will possibly become an unnecessary subject to have in tertiary education.

In conclusion, although teaching art at high school can offer students who love art more opportunities to improve their skills. I strongly believe that art is optional and not vital to be included in high school.
