Many people believe that scientific research should be carried out and controlled by governments rather than private companies. To what extend do you agree or disagree with this opinion?

It is a highly debatable issue whether scientific research should be conducted and administered by governments rather than private sectors. I partly disagree with this assertion as it overlooks the benefits from private companies.

The underlying reason why scientific program should be taken over by private sectors is the limited budget of the government. Research and Development activities required a huge amount of financial resources and due to restricted budget, the government is failing to cover all scientific projects nationally. Without enough funding resources, numerous of research which bring many benefits to human beings will be interrupted or even cut off. For example, though researching and experimenting in medication manufacture is particularly expensive, in the first place governments are responsible for all of the activities. However, the limitation of state budget forces the government to hand over the operation to private sectors in order to continue developing and producing medicines. Therefore, the involvement of private companies in research is significant, as they can make large and stable investments in the development of science and technology.

Nevertheless, management of governments in scientific programs is still important. Private companies are always running with the goal in making good profits as much as possible and thus some of them might break the law, carrying out dangerous scientific projects. For instance, weapon manufacturers do experiment on weapon of mass destruction, which threaten to the safety of people. It is an essential role of the government in supervising as well as introducing necessary legislations to keep scientific experiments and purposes in a right path.

To summarize, I believe that scientific programs should be carried out by private sectors, as they have an advantage of financial resources. However, these experiments should be controlled by law and supervised by the government.
