Topic: Increasing travels between countries enable people to learn different cultures or to increase tension between people from different countries.
Essay:
It is true that transnational travels, nowadays, become more popular than ever before. While this trend may give people chances to explore a rich variety of cultures in the world, I personally believe that it is more likely to result on conflicts between tourists and locals.
On the one hand, international travelers are given some opportunities to broaden their knowledge of various cultures. To be more detailed, these people, along their way, could communicate directly with local inhabitants and also ask them about cultural elements, such as customs, festivals and cuisines. Over time, the interaction promotes understandings of both foreign visitors and indigenous locals on mutual cultural backgrounds, which challenge stereotypes held by them. Moreover, in due course, each person would be proud of their own cultural values, which have never been appreciated or understood before. From this perspective, travel from one country to another, to certain extent, allows individuals to experience the diversity of cultures by themselves.
However, I would argue that reasons for increased tension are even more significant. Firstly, the upsurge in new arrivals puts additional pressure on natural resources like water and land in countries. While the resources are overused for tourism facilities and personal use of tourists, local citizens everyday suffer from shortages, which prevents them from maintaining the traditional lifestyle. As the consequence, hostility against foreigners spreads rapidly throughout the community. Secondly, foreigners, in some cases, violate local practices by making minor cultural mistakes unintentionally, which is an insult for inhabitants. For example, instead of wearing revealing clothes in worship places, they should cover themselves up politely.
In conclusion, there are convincing arguments for both opinions, but it seems to me that the situation undoubtedly poses a great threat on the peaceful relationship between countries.
