The table compares the percentage of six different kinds of families who lived in poor condition in Australia in 1999
It is clear that the people living alone suffered a more difficult condition than the couple. Poverty rates of elderly people had significantly lower than the younger people. Aged couples were living in the better condition than the other.
The percentage of all family types was 11%(1,837,000). Old people who lived with partners were the least poor condition, at 4% and a bit higher in this figure for aged people living alone, at 6%.
The poverty rate of single parents was 21%(232,000) and it also was highest. Meanwhile, the proportion of couples with children was half lower just at 12%. Just a small number of couples without children were living in the low quality, at 7% (211,000), while this figure for singles no children was more than approximately three times, at 19%.
