The maps show two different underground tunnel systems for cars in two Australian cities.
The given maps compare the underground road systems as it built over the period 1986 to 1998, with another one which was built in Australian between 2002 and 2006
Overall, the remarkable difference was tunnel’s position with the surrounding environment. The first tunnel was located beneath the bridge, the water layer and the sand layer respectively meanwhile the second tunnel was underneath the highway and a layer of stone and clay
We can see that the length of the first tunnel was 2.2 kilometers which was shorter than the figure 3.6 kilometers of the second one whereas the second tunnel had the deep of tunnel from the ground surface was higher than the first one.
A further difference such as the first tunnel was invested with the amount of the cost only 555 million dollars over the period of 12 years, starting from 1986 that’s why the scale of the its tunnel was only four lanes wide compare to six lanes wide of the second tunnel system which was built from 2002 to 2006 with cost twice as much, at 1,1 billion dollars
