The graph illustrates stages in a salmon's life cycle. Overall, there are seven steps, starting with salmon eggs and ending up growing into spawning adults.
In the very first periods of life, eggs are laid by spawning adults before they pass away within 2 weeks. Once eggs are hatched, they turn into a fish carrying a sac of yolk for feeding named Alevin before hunting by themselves. Subsequently, the Alevins develop into Fries after 5 to 10 weeks and start swimming before growing to Parr, a several-month-old salmon and have its own finger markings.
When eggs rise to 1-3 years old Smolts, they grouped and head out to the large sea for hunting. After mature salmon are fully grown and turn into spawning adults after around 8 years at sea, they would either end up being hunted by bears on the way heading back home or successfully lay their eggs for a new generation before the last moments of their lives.
