IELTS Writing Task 1 Table

The table below provides statistics on several major (MRT) systems around the world. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main feature and make comparisons were relevant.

The table compares the data of various major metro system around the world in scale of age, length and carrying capacity annually.

Overall, the newer the system the shorter of their total length. Built in 1863, London metro system is obviously the oldest and far greater in scale that hold a total of 1100 km long and carrying 548 million people annually yet the most recent one has only 14 km in term of length and is capable of transporting 90 millions of people per year. However, despite the length being shorter over year there has been a significant rise in the newer MRT’s capacity. The Paris system for example can take 850 visitors per year when almost downsizing half the length of the London’ s one. Fourteen years later, completed in 1904, the Tokyo MRT decrease its length to only 149 km yet it totally exceeds other countries in capacity with the largest number of passengers.

However, followings systems are smaller in term of both length and capacity. The metro in Washington DC can only carry 70 million of people and the Kyoto’s one being the least impressive out of the six metro, it was constructed with only 11 km long and carrying 11 million passengers annually.
