IELTS Writing Task 1: Rainwater Treatment in Australia

My Essay:

The diagram provides a schematic illustration of the process of preserving, filtering and treating the rainwater, in order to supply it for drinking purpose, in a town in Australia.

Overall, two separate pipelines can be seen, one taking the rainwater away from the houses, and the other supplying the treated water back to the units. All of the water from rainfalls, is collected by drains, and then passed through the filtration unit. After that, it is stored in a storage tank for further taken to treatment unit where it is cleaned with the help of chemicals, in order to make it safe for drinking.

The first system of pipelines, shown in dark, is to collect the rainfall from the rooftops and eaves of houses, and from there it is taken to the underground gutters. Next, these gutters are connected to another pipe that ensure the flow of water towards a Filtration unit, where it is cleaned from impurities.

The second system of pipelines actually carries the filtered water and is shown as white in the blueprint. The filtered water collected in the storage unit is subsequently channeled to chemical treatment unit. Finally, from the treatment center, the water, which is now safe for consumption, is delivered to the houses in a series of pipes.
