IELTS Writing Task 1 - Maps comparison

Topic: The two maps below show an island, before and after the construction of some tourist facilities. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The two maps illustrate the layout of an island before and after the introduction of various tourist facilities. Overall, while the newly built facilities enabled the island to develop tourism activities effectively, the natural environment was kept generally intact.

In detail, the island started as an unpopulated location, with two regions of palm trees located in the east and west - the former was larger compared to the latter. A beach could be found at the far west, although it was not used for any commercial purpose.

After the construction of tourist facilities, the island underwent some dramatic changes. In the south, a pier was built for ships to reach the island, which was connected to a vehicle track leading to a reception building in the center of the island, as well as a restaurant in the north. Two accommodation sections were introduced in the center and around the western trees region, with footpath connecting the with the main road. The beach was converted into a swimming area for visitors. The only region that remained unchanged is the eastern corner of the island.
