The table below gives information about student enrolments at Manchester University in 1937, 1967 and 2017.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The table compares the numbers and structure of new enrolments at Manchester University in 1937, 1967 and 2017. Overall, the 80-year period witnessed a exponential growth in the population of first-year students at this university, with the number in 2017 being 6254 (as approximately 20 times as it was in 1937).

As for sex, there seemed to be a relative gender balance with quite a little difference in the proportions for men and women except 1967 when the ratio of new male students to female counterparts was just under 2 to 1.

As far as the hometown were concerned, the percentage of new enrolments from Manchester and its surrounding plunged from over a half in 1937 to just a minimal 1-2 percent in 2017. In stark contrast, the proportion of foreign students increased dramatically from under 7 percent before 1967 to about a third in 2017. Moreover, Manchester university had been a much more cosmopolitan society with first-year oversea students coming from 102 countries compared to just 4 countries in 1937.
