Overall, in the beginning, there were more opening shops than closing ones. However, at the end of the period, the number of closures was higher.
In 2011, there were around 8500 shops opening in this country when the number of closings was less than about 3000 shops. In the next year, the opening shops went down by more than half to 4000. Meanwhile, the number of closures dipped slightly to 6000. From 2012 to 2014, both closing and opening shops increased to approximately 6300.
From 2014 to 2015, the number of shops that closed plummeted to under 1000, which was followed by a quick rise to around 5100 in 2016, and then this number nearly stayed unchanged till the end of the period. During this period, the opening shops shrank gradually and hit a low of 3000 shops which opened in 2018.
