IELTS Writing Task 1 - Line graph

The graph below shows the production levels of main fuels in a European country from
1981 to 2000.

The line graph illustrates the level of production of main types of fuels in a particular European nation between 1981 and 2000.

Overall, it is clear that while the production of coal experienced a downward trend over the 19-year period, the reverse was true for petroleum and natural gas. Additionally, petroleum was the type of fuel which was produced the most throughout the years recorded.

Starting at exactly 80 tonnes, the amount of coal generated sharply dropped to around 50 tonnes in 1985, which was followed by a considerable rise to over 70 tonnes three years later. After that, the figures gradually declined to nearly 40 tonnes, which was the lowest production measured over the period.

Turning to petroleum and natural gas, while the former’s production level underwent a number of sharp fluctuations to end up at about 120 tonnes, which was just approximately 20 tonnes higher than its figure in the beginning year, that of the latter remained unchanged at 40 tonnes during the first 13 years, before doubling to 80 tonnes in 2000.
