IELTS WRITING TASK 1 - LINE GRAPH

The graph above shows the consumption of fish and some different kinds of meat in a European country between 1979 and 2004.

My answer:

The line graph illustrates the amount of four different kinds of food which people in a European nation consumed from 1979 to 2004.

Overall, fish was the least commonly used in this country over the period shown. In addition, the expenditure on lamb, beef decreased over this period while there was a fluctuating increase in the figure for chicken.

It is clear that the amount of beef consumed was the highest number in 1979, at over 200 grams per person per week. The figure for chicken and lamp were lower, at under 150 and exactly 150 respectively. However, the consumption of fish accounted for the lowest number, only about 60 grams eaten per week.

In the period between 1979 and 2004. Despite fluctuations, the country witnessed a considerable growth to 250 grams in the consumption of chicken, which was the highest point of the whole line graph in 1979. By contrast, the amount of lamp consumed fell gradually about 60 grams per person per week, compared to about 50 grams of fish in 2004. Although the consumption of beef reached a peak of approximately 250 grams in 1983, it fell sharply to over 100 by the year 2004.
