IELTS Writing Task 1- Bar Graph

The given bar graph represents the literacy levels of men and women lived in whether rural areas or urban areas in India in 2013, 2015 and 2017.

Overall, literacy rates of Indians had a steady increase over the years and people lived in cities had better reading and writing skills than those who lived in countryside.

Men who lived in rural areas had noticeable lower literacy levels than their urban counterparts. Rural male literacy rates rose sharply from 57.87% to 77.15% in 6 years while the literacy rates of urban male experienced a moderate growth that brought the rates from 81.09% to 88.76%.

With regard to women, the literacy levels of those living in rural areas were considerably lower than urban females. However, there was a dramatically rise in number of women who can read and write in countryside compare with a mild rise in number of those in cities. In details, the literacy rates of rural females rose from 30.62% to 57.93% whereas urban female literacy rates grew from 64.05% to 79.11%.

In conclusion, both men and women in India had increased their literacy levels over the period though men was still had higher rates of literacy than women whether they lived in rural or urban locations.
