The bar chart compares in terms of the duration of telephone calls made by different lines in the UK between 1995 and 2002. It is clear that the number of minutes of telephone calls using national and international – fixed lines and mobiles increased while the figure for local-fixed lines rose and then fell back. However, the local-fixed line was the most common call type in this nation during the period given.

Starting at 3 billion minutes in 1995, the number of mobile phone calls was the lowest in comparison with other categories. However, this figure grew slowly, reaching 9 billion minutes in 1998, and then rocketed to roughly 45 billion minutes in 2002. Despite showing an upward trend, national and international-fixed line calls climbed slightly from the initial point of 37 billion minutes to 50 billion minutes after 5 years. The period from 1999 to 2002 witnessed a sharper rise of 10 billion minutes in this call type.

In contrast, being the highest figures every year, local-fixed line calls did not increase continuously. The figure for the local-fixed line had reached a peak of 90 billion minutes before decreasing to approximately 72 billion minutes in 2002.
