IELTS WRITING TASK 1 - BAR CHART

The chart below gives information about global sales of games software, CDs and DVD or video.

My answer:

The bar chart illustrates data on how worldwide sales of Games software, CDs and DVD/video changed in four years between 2000 and 2003.

Overall, it is clear that the sales of games software and DVD/video increased steadily, while the figure for CDs declined over the period, though it always enjoyed the highest sales in the four years shown.

In 2000, the sales of CDs were much higher than those of the other two products, they totaled 35 billion dollars, compared to 18 billion and over 10 billion for DVD/video and games software respectively. However, people spent more money on games software and DVD/video throughout the remainder of the period.

By contrast, the global sales of CDs witnessed a gradual decrease to 33 billion in 2003. This number was still slightly higher than sales of DVD/video, which reached a peak of over 30 billion in 2003. In that year, the sales of games software kept rising, then finally reached its highest point at 19 billion dollars.
