The graph below gives information about the preferred leisure activities of Australian children.
The bar chart illustrates participation of children aged 5 to 14 in various activities in Australia by gender.
Overall, watching TV or videos is the most popular activity for both boys and girls. Three out of five ones are preferred by boys, with the exception of watching TV or videos and art and craft.
All Australian children participate in watching TV or videos. More males prefer bike riding and electronic or computer games than females. While the percentages of boys who are involved in these two leisure interests account for approximately 80 percent, the figures for girls who fall into 5 to 14 age group contribute roughly three fifths.
Skateboarding or rollerboarding only attracts just under 40 percent of male children, which nearly double females’ rate. In contrast, the last activity, art and craft is preferable to girls rather than boys at this age, with the proportions standing at less than 60 percent and 40 percent respectively.
