The bar charts below give information about the railway system in six cities in Europe.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The two bar charts illustrate comparable statistics related to railroad tracks in six capital cities in Europe; Paris, Stockholm, Lisbon, Rome, Madrid and Berlin .

In general, railway lines in different cities vary in terms of the opening dates, the sizes, and the numbers of passengers using the systems per year. It is noticeable that Paris, Stockholm and Lisbon have the three oldest and longest railways systems, these cities also show the greatest traveler figures on average.

As far as the ages are concerned, Paris has the oldest train line among the six cities. It was inaugurated in 1863. Following are systems in Stockholm and Lisbon, which were ready to use in the year 1900 and 1927 respectively. On the other hand, Berlin, Madrid and Rome have the newest railway systems which were opened in 2001, 1981 and 1975 consecutively. In terms of the sizes, Paris, for certain, has the longest route, 394km, which is nearly twice the figure for Stockholm. Madrid, in contrast, has the shortest route in its railway system, only 11km.

When it comes to the numbers of people using the railway system in each, Lisbon shows the largest number of 1927 million passengers in a year, which is nearly twice compared with the figure for Stockholm while Madrid serves the smallest number of railway users, 45 millions.
