IELTS WRITING TASK 1

The pie charts compare population data between Yemen and Italy in terms of age group in the year 2000 along with the prediction for 2050.

Overall, citizens from 0 to 14 years group are expected to experience a decrease, while those over 60 years old will increase in both countries after a 50-year period.

In 2000, around half of Yemen’s population were 0 to 14 years old, whereas just only 14.3 of citizens in Italy were included in this category. Besides, citizens aged 15 to 59 made up 46.3% of the population of Yemen, while those in Italy represented more than three-fifths in total, which was the most significant part of the chart. Senior citizens constituted nearly a quarter of Yemen’s inhabitants, in contrast to only 3.6% in Italy.

In 2050, it is predicted that the figure for people under 15 years of age in Yemen will decline sharply to 37%, compare to a roughly 3% drop in Italy. Senior citizens are expected to increase to almost double in Italy, whereas growth of around 2% will be seen in those in Yemen. It is predicted that inhabitants from 15 to 59 years old will increase to 57.3%, but they are likely to decrease significantly in Italy, to approximately 46%.
