Question

The table and pie chart illustrate populations in Australia according to different nationalities and areas.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The pie chart represents the proportion of the different nationalities which live in Australia, while the table shows the percentage of diverse nationalities which live in either the city or countryside.

Overall, the majority of people living in Australia are Australian. Also, most of the Chinese people in Australia prefer city life rather than living in the countryside.

According to the pie chart, the largest proportion of Australia's population belongs to Australians by 73%. British people make up 7% of the country’s population. And, the lowest proportion of people who live in Australia are Dutch by only 1%.

According to the table, 99% of Chinese people, living in Australia, choose to live in the city rather than in the countryside. Only 11% of the New Zealanders live in the countryside and the rest of them live in cities. The highest percentage of people who live in the countryside are Australians by 20%.

The pie chart and table give information about different nationalities that comprise the population of Australia. Five named groups are shown: Australians, British, New Zealanders, Chinese and Dutch. Specifically, the pie chart depicts the proportion of the population for each group, and the table lists the percentages of each group that live in the cities and in the rural areas.

Overall, the largest group consists of native-born citizens. People from other countries, not named, make up the next largest segment. Most people live in cities.

In particular, 73% are native-born. The British are the largest of the minority groups, making up 7% of the population followed by New Zealanders with 3%. That is about equal in size to the other two, the Chinese and the Dutch, added together. Two out of ten native Australians live outside an urban area. Although the Dutch come the closest in matching this distribution, with 83% in cities and 17% in the rural areas, the other minority groups are more concentrated in cities. The extreme is the Chinese; ninety-nine out of a hundred reside in a city.
