The bar chart shows the literacy rate (% of people who can read and write) by region and gender in 2011. Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant. Write at least 150 words.
The diagram displays the proportion of individuals having the ability to read and write, classified by areas (Central Asia,…) and sex (male and female) during 2011. In the bar chart, there were some disparities: more men were educated than women and it seems that the developed zones had a higher literacy ratio than the developing ones.
The statistics varied among these seven regions, but it can clearly be seen that Central Asia and Central/Eastern Europe reached the highest literacy rates and they were the only territories in which the number of guys equalled ladies, whereas other five demonstrated regions all showed different literacy rates for men and women.
The biggest gap took place in South and West Asia with a considerable discrepancy of about 20%. However, there was not much contrast between this two groups in Sub-Saharan Africa – the least literate area: 70% and 60% male and female literacy rates respectively, a total of 130% compared to 200% in Central Asia.
