The line graph reveals the comparisons between the Chinese and the US birth rates from 1920 to 2000. Overall, both nations showed a similar trend with lows during the 1940s and highs during the 1950s.

As can be seen from the graph, it is clear that the proportion of fertility in the US saw a fluctuation during the former half of the period. Specifically, this figure went up slightly from about 11% (1920) to 13% (1940) then plunged to a low of just 5% in 1945, before reaching a peak of 15% in 1950. However, this was followed by a steady decline in the latter half of the century.

It is evident that China saw considerable growth with its figure climbed to 20% in 1950, after falling rapidly from 10% in 1920 to only 5% in 1945. In contrast. After that time, the percentage of fertility decreased rapidly to under 5% at the end of the period.

To conclude, the birth rates of both countries were comparable until 1950, the gap between them widened after this time as the number in China fell remarkably.
