IELTS WRITING - TASK 1

The bar chart compares the figures for three kinds of telephone calls, namely local - landline, national and international - landline and mobiles in terms of the total number of minutes (in millions) between 1995 and 2004 in Finland.

Overall, the figure for local-landline was recorded at the highest point over the period despite witnessing a marginal drop after 2001. Meanwhile, the number of minutes of the other counterparts experienced a steady increase, and mobiles were the least popular throughout the period.

As can be seen from the chart, in 1995, the number of minutes spent on making calls with the local landline was recorded at 12000, doubling that of the national and international line. Meanwhile, the figure for mobiles calls was merely under 1000. Over the next four years, the time spent on national and international landline calls slightly rose to 8000, just a half as opposed to 16000 of local landline. Meanwhile, the mobile calls only reached over 2000, lower eight times than that of local - landline in 1999.

On the other hand, in 2000, the figure for the local-landline calls only went up by nearly 1000 before dropping marginally to under 14000 in 2003. By contrast, the number of minutes in the national and international landline steadily escalated to 10000 in three years. Likewise, the figures for mobile calls also experienced significant growth with over 8000. However, by 2004, the figure for local - landline had stood at 12000, while the other counterparts had approximately equalled around 10000.
