IELTS Writing Task 1:

Task 1

The provided graph illustrates the consumption of fish and three different kinds of meats in a European country between 1979 and 2004.

This is my writing:

The line graph illustrates the rate of fish, chicken, beef and lamb consumed in a European country from 1979 to 2004.

The consumption of chicken showed a significant rise over the period of time, then remained in the first place whereas those of beef and lamb experienced a substantial downward trend. Fish experienced a slight decrease and was also the least favorite food.

Initially, the amount of chicken eaten started off in the third place with nearly 150 grams/per person in 1979, which then grew rapidly, exceeded lamb’s rate, then beef’s rate in 1989 and finally reached its peak with roughly 250 grams.

On the other hand, beef and lamb’ records appear to be dramatic and unsteady drops. The quantity of beef consumed was thought to be rising at first (around 220 grams in 1997) but then witnessed a reduction which ended up in a second place with approximately 100 grams. The figure of lamb also decreased by nearly 100 grams over time, from 150 grams to only about 50 grams per person. Meanwhile, fish consumption declined though not very considerable, from around 60 grams per person in 1979 to around 40 grams per person in 2004.
