IELTS Writing task 1

My essays:

The line graph demonstrates the number of marriages and divorces in the UK over the period of 25 years.

A quick glance at the given graph reveals that while the total figure of marriages increased, the figure of first marriages decreased. The number of divorces rose significantly during the shown period.

In 1975, the number of total marriages was nearly 500 thousands, which is over 150 thousands higher than that of first marriages. After 10 year, both figures experienced an upward trend and reached nearly 650 thousands and 400 thousands, respectively before slightly declining by 10 thousands in 1990. From 1990 to 2000, the number of first marriages continued falling dramatically by 100 thousands while that of total marriages remained stable in the last 10 years of the given period after going down by around 50 thousands.

Turning to the other two figures, in the first 15 years of the period, the figures for divorces grew gradually from around 80 thousands to nearly 250 thousands. The number of second marriages showed the same trend until 1985 when it stopped increasing and hovered around 250 thousands in 1990. Between 1990 and 2000, the data of divorces marginally rose by 10 thousands. At the same time, the number of second marriages declined by 10 thousands after reaching a peak of over 250 thousands.
