The line chart below shows the number of men and women that smoke cigarettes in Australia.Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.Write at least 150 words.
The line chart illustrates the number of males and females who smoked cigarettes in Australia from 1960 to 2000. In general, it can be seen easily that the number of men that smoked cigarettes had a downward trend, while those with women had an upward trend. In detail, the number of males who smoked cigarettes decreased from 6 millions to 3 millions while those with females increased from 1 million to 2 millions. The number of men who smoked in 1960 was approximately 6 millions in 1960 but it dropped dramatically to 4 millions bt 1980. In the period from 1980 to 1985, the number stayed stability, then decreased gradually to under 3 millions by 1995. From 1995 to 2000, the number had a slight rise. The popularity of smoking for females fluctuated throughout the period. In 1960, the number was 1 million, then it raised gradually to 2 millions by 1970. It suddenly jumped to nearly 3,5 millions by 1975, then made a slight decrease to 3 millions by 1980. In the period of the next five years, the number was at a same level. From 1985 onwards, it dropped slowly to 2 millions.(195 words)
