Question

The two pictures show two methods of collecting water for irrigation from systems different water resources.

The first method is swing basket, two men try to bring water up to irrigation channel from a 1-2 meters deep hole by using fore ropes that have been tied around a basket made of bamboo and leather. It's shaped like a small box. Then, there are ropes which bundle at the basket. Lastly, these two people withdraw it from the river as irrigation channel to the field.

The second method is called a rope and bucket, this method is easier than the previous method because it uses the animal as a capital to run the water. While rollers and ropes are placed at the top of a well which has a depth of 50 meters. After that, a bucket in which water is held is tied with the tail of the ropes. Finally, the animal is fastened with the heads of the ropes. The process begins when the animal comes near the well so the length of the rope inside the well gets longer.

The swing basket method is used when the water source is a river or stream. Two long ropes are threaded through a bamboo or leather basket, shaped like a box. It requires two men holding on to the ends of the ropes to drop the basket into the river, let it fill up with water, and then lift it up and over the river bank to an irrigation channel. They drop the basket full of river water into the channel, and repeat the process. No mechanical equipment is required, and there is no need to dig a well.

The second method, rope and bucket, is used when the water source is a deep well. Two ropes are tied to the bucket, and it is lowered into the well by a system of pulleys and rollers. A horse or ox can be used instead of one or two men, to pull the ropes, raising the bucket full of water out of the well. The bucket is emptied into the irrigation channel running next to the top of the well.
