The chart shows the differences in the amount of time spent on chatting on the Internet and playing on games consoles by 10 to 15-year-olds on an average school day according to gender. Overall, boys spend more time playing games than girls while there is an opposite trend regarding chatting online.
The percentage of both genders spending less than one hour chatting online is relatively equal, at around 25% while there are more girls than boys allocating more than one hour on a daily basis for this activity. The proportion of boys and girls spending more than 4 hours chatting is insignificant, at only 5%, lower than girls' figure.
Meanwhile, 42% of boys allocate one to three hours to play games while the figure for girls is only one-third. By contrast, close to 38% of girls play games within one hour, slightly higher than boys do. The percentage of girls playing games for more than four hours is ten times lower than that of the boys.
