The line graph compares the percentage of people aged 65 or more in three countries over a period of 100 years

The line graph gives information about the percentage of the inhabitant aged 65 and above in 3 different countries over a 100 year period.
Overview, these data sources clearly communicate that there are many noticable fluctuations in the percentage of people in 3 different countries from 1940 to 2040. However, it is clear that they are all expected to follow the upward trend.

In 1940, the American senior citizens only accounted for 9%, while the Swedish and Japanese people accounted for about 7% and 5% respectively. In the next 40 years, USA and Sweden both witnessed the gradual increase of roughly 6% in the proportion of elderly dwellers. By contrast, the figures of Japan fell slightly to under 5% in 1960 and remained stable until the late 20th century. Up to the present, there have been a steady growth in the percentage of American elderly people, whearas the Sweden aged population have reached a plateau since 1998 after a slight drop and the figures for Japan have went up moderately since 1988.

Look into the furture, a sudden upsurge in the proportion of Japanese people aged 65 and more is predicted, with a jump further to 26% in just ten years. By 2040, the elderly population of Japan is expected to be quintupled, while the figures for USA and Sweden are thought to follow a growth pattern that is more varied.
