The line graph demonstrates some resemblance between the US and Chinese birth rate from 1920 to 2000.

As overall trend, both countries observed rapid oscillations, with ups during the 1950s and downs during the 1940s

Commencing from 1920, China's birth rate increased slightly to 15 percent in 1935, which then fell to a low of 5 percent in the 1940s. After that, there was a sharp growth in the fertility of the country, reaching 20 percent in 1950. The following years, however, observed a rapid fall in China's birth rate.

Similarly, the US's fertility varied between 11 and 13 percent previous to 1940, before falling sharply to 5 percent in 1945. During the next 5 years, the rate went up considerably to roughly 15 percent in 1950, followed by a steady plunge over the next years
