IELTS Writing Task 1

The line graph illustrates the consumption of four categories of food, namely fish, lam, beef and chicken in a particular European country in the course of 25 years beginning in 1979.

It is evident from the graph that all types of food experienced a downward trend except for chicken. Additionally, the consumption of fish was the lowest over the period.

In 1979, beef consumption was the highest among four kinds of protein (with nearly 225 grams per person per week). This figure showed a sharp decline to about 100 grams in the end of the period. Lamb witnessed a similar trend, which fell dramatically to 100 grams in 1989, before gradually decreasing to just around 60 grams in 2004. Also, the quantity of fish eaten slightly fell approximately from 60 grams to 50 grams in 1979 and in 1984 respectively, followed by a stable decline at just under 50 grams in 2004.

Meanwhile, chicken consumption experienced an exponential climb over the period. From under 140 grams in 1979, this figure surpassed the comsumption of beef in 1989 with nearly 200 grams. It peaked at above 250 grams, before slightly falling for the rest of the period.
