The line graph illustrates how much water was consumed globally in the three categories of agricultural, industrial and domestic purposes between 1900 and 2000. While, the table demonstrates different water use of Brazil and Congo in the year 2000.
It is clear from the graph that all the figures of three sectors rose during the research period. Additionally, the amount of water consumption in agriculture was by far the highest.
Water use for agricultural purposes stood at 500 km3 in 1990. This figure increased significantly in the end, at 3000 km3. Likewise, similar trends were witnessed in industrial and domestic uses. In 2000, water consumption in industry registered 1000 km3. At the same time, domestic use of water inclined slowly to only 300 km3, by far below the level use of agriculture.
In 2000, the populations of Brazil and Congo were 176 million and 5.2 million, respectively. Besides, the former had more irrigated land, about 265 times, than the later. Also, water consumption per person in Brazil, at 365 m3, much higher than that in Congo.
