People have different views about the role of studying the past. While there are some arguments in favour of it to be less valuable to our contemporary world, I suppose that it is vital to encourage individuals to study history. More importantly, there will be many negative impacts on our society if children are not taught history.

There are manifold reasons to learn history. First and foremost, learning history allows people to know the past happenings and cultural heritage. To demonstrate, children can learn social, traditional and cultural values if history subject taught to them. Secondly, students who learn about history will understand how their ancestors survived to get the independence of their country. Hence, it helps children to develop spirit of patriotism. Study history is that it helps one to know right from wrong due to mistakes made by ancestors or learn from their wise decisions. Without studying the past we cannot understand why a certain civilization flourished among others and why nations were destroyed. This knowledge can give us such a wisdom that would help us progress further.

It is safe to say that our society can be severely affected if children are discouraged from studying history. Youngsters may lack the social, moral and cultural values if they do not learn the history. Hence, they become disrespectful towards their heritage. Adding to it, unlike history learner, they will not contribute in the development of country as they not have interest in past. In addition, it cannot be denied that children can easily repeat the past mistakes in the future if they are not taught the past violence.

In conclusion, I would argue that studying history has many positive effects nowadays, and it is crucial for history to be placed more emphasis in all educational settings. Learning the past is the first step to building a better future.
