IELTS Writing Part 1

The graph shows the amount of money spent on books in Germany, France, Italy and Austria between 1995 and 2005.

The graph illustrates how much money people spent on books in 4 selected countries including Germany, France, Italy and Austria from 1995 to 2005.

In general, over the period shown, the expenditure on books in all countries witnessed an upward trend. It is noticeable that Germans spent the most amount of money among the given countries.

In 1995, the population of Germany spent 80 million dollars on books, leading the way in the graph. The figures for France and Italy were nearly the same, at about 55 million and 50 million, respectively. Austrians only spent 30 million on books at the same year.

Throughout the period, despite having fluctuation, the amount of money spent on books in German remained higher than others, at about 100 million dollars. The figures for France experienced a steady increase, it rose by 20 million from 1995 to 2005. There was a slight drop in the amount of money spent on books in Italy in 1999 before hitting its peak of over 60 million dollars in 2005. In contrast, the spending money in Austria rocketed to 70 million dollars, surpassing the figure for Italy in the same year.
