The two pie charts compare five different sources of energy for the US in two different years (1980 and 1990)

Overall, it is clear that oil accounted for the highest proportion of the US's source of energy in all two years. By contrast, hydroelectric power took up the smallest percentage.

In 1980, about 42% of energy in the US was made by oil. However, this figure increased gently to 33% in 1990. The amount of energy produced by hydroelectric power and nuclear power were the same in 1980, at just 5%. But then the figure for nuclear power rose slightly to 10% in 1990, while hydroelectric power still contributed a small minority of energy with 5%.

Furthermore, there was a minimal decrease in the amount of energy made by natural gas, from 26% to 25% in 1990. By contrast, the proportion of energy generated by coal climbed slightly, by 5% in 1990.
