Hi everyone, I'm practicing for the IELTS test on my own and here is one of my writing answers for the IELTS.

Topic: Living in a country where u have to speak a foreign language can cause serious social problems, as well as practical problems.

To what extent do u agree or disagree with this statement?

My answer:

I would agree with the statement if we are mentioning to the foreigner who can’t speak the language of the countries where they are. On the other hand, if the foreigner can speak the native language of the country where they visit, I believe that they would hardly have problems caused by language obstacle.

I would like to discuss about the first issue that I have mentioned before: problems to the foreigner who can’t speak the language of the region where they are in. The first problem that I see many foreign visitors in my country may have is the discrimination of the local people, they might rip off the visitors, they might say things that are not good in front of the foreigners, cause they know that the foreigners won’t understand. On the contrary, if people in developing countries travel to a developed country, they can also face the disrespecting.

There would also be a big difficulty for people to travel to a country that most native resident can’t speak English. It means that it would be really hard to communicate, you might not be able to buy the thing you need, and it’d be really hard to make friends either. More important, the foreigner might not be helped when they need because of miscommunicating. It could be worse if the foreigner meet bad local people, they might really be cheated.

Above is all the problems that I think a foreign travellers might cope with if they can’t speak the native language of the country where they visit. But if the travellers can speak that language, I think they would absolutely have an enjoyable journey, cause they can communicate confidently, they can make friends to the local people, they can describe anything they need, and they can understand what people are talking about so they hardly get no fears.
