Ielts: valuable information should be shared freely

Some people believe that it is good to share as much information as possible in scientific research, business and the academic world. Others believe that some information is too important and too valuable to be shared freely. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

It is true that information exchanging has a role to play in a fast-changing world. While some people claim that it is necessary to share information freely, I strongly believe that such information should be kept confidentially.

On the one hand, there are those who believe that it is of importance to share information publicly. Such information has been making an improvement in our living conditions. Innovations in technology, science or business give people an in-depth knowledge of their fields that they specialize. In other words, information sharing among nations or organizations enables the public to have a better chance of tackling their problems and having viable solutions. Take agriculture application for example. Initiatives of technology from developed countries give open access to efficient methods of crops, which helps farmers generate a great amount of produce and make profits to enhance their standard of living.

On the other hand, I side with those who assert that valuable information should be restricted to the public. The exchanging of information may have a negative impact on organizations’ development. In particular, there is fierce competition in the marketplace in contemporary society. Apparently, companies must have their long-term strategies and unique products to be able to appeal to customers and compete other rivals. If confidential information were launch publicly, companies would face failure and lose market share because other competitors would steal their creative ideas to drum up their own business. For instance, plans of toy products as Lego are always kept carefully until they are introduced in market.

In conclusion, although it is true that initiatives should be popular with the public, I firmly believe that such important information should be kept secretly.
