IELTS Task2 - Computer Games. Can someone please review my essay

some people say that playing computer games is bad for children where is others say that it has positive effects on the way children develop. Discuss both sides and give your opinion

In the last few years, various types of computer games have developed and children of today spend many hours playing them. Many people argue that these games have benefits for children’s development, while others hold this view that they are harmful. The following paragraphs will discuss both perspectives and give a concluding view. Personally, I am in favor of the latter idea.

On the one hand, the group of people who believe that computer games have advantages for children, argue that these games introduce computer technology to children. Moreover, proponents of computer games believe that children will learn how to take risks in real life, this is because they say in computer games children have the chance to make false decisions and start again. Another argument is that games specifically brain ones, increase the creativity and intelligence of children to solve challenging problems.

On the other hand, opponents of this view, point out that computer games have several drawbacks. As an example, playing a long time with a computer damages the eyesight and causes problems such as dry eyes, blurred vision, eyestrain, and difficulty in focusing. These days, it can be seen that an extensive number of children who play long hours with the computer, wear eyeglasses. Furthermore, critics of computer games argue that this recreational activity is addicting. Consequently, kids may spend most of their time playing games, so they are likely to forget their school homework, which has a negative impact on their education. Finally, this group of individuals says that many games have violent characters and violent senses, which can increase children’s tendency to become arrogant and to have aggressive behavior.

Overall, I would tend to side with proponents of computer games. Personally, I believe, although, they have negative points if parents control the type of the games they play and the hours their offspring devotes to playing games, the pros such as the increase in creativity, becoming familiar with computers, and being risk-takers, outweigh the disadvantages.
