IELTS Task2. Can you please review it and give a score

If children behave badly should their parents take responsibility and also be punished? State your answer and give your reasons. OR If a five year old commits a crime (any kind), should his/her parents accept responsibility and how should they be punished. What is the age of a child when parents no longer have the responsibility of a child’s behavior?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

There is a debate on whether parents are responsible for their children's misbehavior, and they should be punished or not. I believe parents are in charge when their children commit a crime at a young age.

Family is the first place where children learn several values: love, respect, being helpful, and social values. Children imitate their parent's behavior, their personality, and the way they communicate with others. In fact, their character is under the influence of their parents. Furthermore, their inappropriate actions are inevitable, so parents hold the responsibility to keep an eye on them. Therefore, the onus is on parents to control their child's behavior.

When someone commits a crime, whether a petty or barbaric crime, they should be punished; otherwise, the probability of reoffending is high. In the case of children's misdeeds, both parents and children should be punished. The effective way to discipline children is to ban them from their desired activities. For example, they should not be allowed to play computer games or go out with friends. As a result, children will be less likely to repeat that action, and they might understand their behavior was not respectful. For parents, if their child's activity has a social consequence, governments will have to impose a fine for them. However, for serious crimes, parents might be sentenced to prison. Consequently, mothers and fathers will pay more attention to bringing up their children. So punishment is necessary for both parents and children and should depend on the severity of the crime.

However, parents are not responsible for their children's actions in their whole life. Besides family, children learn a lot from their friends, teachers, and society. When they become mature, they can distinguish between right and wrong and decide the best decision. Evidence shows that 18 years old is the right age for people to accept responsibility for their faults.

Overall, it seems logical to conclude that parents play a crucial role in their child's behavior, and they are in charge of their misdeeds until they are wide enough to make decisions.
